When I was in 7th grade I was talking to a classmate about something life-changing of course and someone corrected me.
Me being the confident young man I was said “I know!”
Then my classmate said something that stuck with me for the rest of my life.
He said “Zain, you don’t know everything. Why do you always say you know?”
Me being the very mature person I am said “NO I DON’T!”
I know I was mature beyond my years.
At the moment I was embarrassed and mad. He doesn’t know me! Who the hell is he to say anything?
Eventually, when I got over myself I realized he was right. I was so afraid to admit that I didn’t know something that I would pretend I knew it after the fact. He doesn’t know it but he changed my life with that interaction.
After that, I just started admitting I didn’t know. It was uneasy at first but once I got over that feeling it was extremely freeing!
Now I just say I don’t know even when I do just to hear how other people see things. I might have gone a little too far in the other direction…
What does this have to do with digital healthcare or even healthcare?
There are a lot of issues with healthcare and we all think we know how to solve them. But the fact is that healthcare is very complicated and there is no silver bullet.
I used to get depressed sitting at my desk staring at my schedule thinking how do we fix this?!?!
The thing is we don’t need to know the solution to everything. We just need to fix one thing at a time or point people in the right direction.
I don’t subscribe to the idea of having an opinion on everything or having a solution for every problem. If it was that easy, we would not have problems.
But I am one of those people that loves to dream big because if you “shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you'll land among the stars.”
I know this has been a short one today, but I appreciate all the support from every single one of you.
I also wanted to start something new where I share one fact about myself every week. So here we go with the first one!
Random fact about me: I love film photography.
